What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? To create my magazine I used a varity of tools from online to hand drawn to achieve my final product, I hand drew my main image on paper which I then took into photoshop where I was able to change the contrast and exposure so that it looked more like it was created digitally, I cut the outline of the image so that is was transparent making it easier to add on top of my photoshop layers.  Using a pleathora of online resources such as Google images for a template, an online font generator for the title and a random ISPN code from Google images as well to create the barebones of my magazine. I was able to use Photoshop to create everything else on the magazine such as all the text, the neon borders and textured background. Photoshop is the best editing software for creating images so I felt it was the best choice to create my entire magazine piecing it together much like a puzzle. I was able to a...

What kind of media institution might distribute your magazine and why? Grave's parent company would have to be Time Inc. due to the fact they own a plethora of different genre magazines ranging from music to travel. Choosing this company is the best option to launch my magazine because " Time Inc. is one of the world's most influential media companies - home to 100 iconic brands" which would allow my magazine to be tied with this iconic name pushing it forward into mainstream, as well as the legendary brand name Time Inc. has a strong digital presence which include more than "60 websites reaching   150+ million monthly digital visitors, 2 billion video views, and a social footprint of 200+ million through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+ and YouTube". This would catapult my magazine into social media so that it able to have a stronger online presence which is the most important factor in keeping a current music magazine  relevant in the...

Final Double Page Spread

Image
For my final double page spread draft I have acted upon my Ways Forward by having an introductory sentence to the text so that it does not just start randomly. I split up the the main text into paragraphs so that it is easier for the audience to read and so that they are not so daunted to read a bunch of text. I have continued the textured black background keeping the whole house vibe throughout the entire magazine.

Final Contents Page Draft

Image
For my final contents page draft I have acted on my Ways Forward by applying them to my contents page. I have made the background black again and added the same texture as the font cover to add more dimension and make the magazine as a whole more cohesive this has created a more house style in the process. I have formatted the text so that it looks mores structured on the page with related images beside that correlate with the issue. Also I have added to my editors letter adding a sign in and sign off so that the reader feels like i am talking to them directly through the letter.

Final Magazine Front Cover

Image
For my final edit I have applied all my Ways Forward by making the date less specific, making the main cover line a different colour from the rest and making it the largest and having the font look more professional in an electronic style. I chose this specific font because I feel it is reminiscent of classic video games from the 90's. I made the other cover lines smaller and toward the bottom of the magazine so that they not taking up the entire main image and obstructing it.

Double Page Spread Final

Image
I have kept my neon theme continuing on to this double page spread with it around the border of the text and on the text name so that the whole double page spread ties in together. I have placed the main image on the left because when we read we read from left to right so the audience will see the main image and title first before they then read on to the matching text about who this artist is, we are visual beings so seeing an image of the person with the matching text helps everyone to put an image to what they are reading. I've kept the main body of text in a simple font in a contrasting white from the black background so that the audience can focus on the text and image without so much going on around it. Reflection: I am happy with my layout because its simple and easy without too much going on. Ways Forward: Having an introduction to the text Splitting up the text into paragraphs so that its easier to read

Contents Page Final

Image
I have acted upon my ways forward by correcting all the spelling errors and number mistakes, i have made the editors letter more readable as well as the magazine date. I have added a background to make the font stand out more so that the reader can focus more on the text. My features give the reader enough information to know what is in this issue but not enough so that they want to read through the pages to find out more. The editors letter is relateable to the audience so that they feel like someone is talking to them in an informal manor. Reflection: The background colours and neon theme have improved Ways Forward:  Making the background black so its more cohesive  Formatting the text so that it looks more structured  Editing the editor's letter so it has a sign in and sign off

Final Contents Page Draft

Image
I have continued on with my neon theme to the contents page with the neon boarder and title at the top of the page in the centre. I chose to make the text the same colour as the coverlids on the front cover so that the magazine is more cohesive as a whole, the font is also the same so not to distract the reader and again make the magazine look like one finished project. The features in the contents page add enough information to attract the reader and make them want to turn to the articles and read them without being to drawn out and boring, I have given enough information to get the reader to want more. Reflection:  I need to make sure my spelling is correct before I post since photoshop does not have auto correct, I should also make the editors letter a more appropriate colour so it is easier to read. Ways Forward: Correct spelling mistakes  Correct general composition

Final Magazine Draft

Image
I have acted upon my Ways Forward by making my coverlines smaller and all on the left because English speakers read left to right, adding to this if it is displayed on a magazine stand horizontally the coverlines will all be easily readable. I made the date in a numerical order instead of it being written out because it is quicker to read and takes up less space on the magazine so that is it not an eyesore. As well as the price, issue number and barcode I have made them smaller so yet again they will not distract from the main image and coverlines but are still noticeable to the reader due to the white font contrasting from the black background. I chose a small tag line "wanting to dance" to fit underneath the main title to make my magazine unique and specific to my brand. I have added a static texture to the black background because the conotations of static are often forbidden and the breaking down of technology. Reflection: I think that my composition with the tit...

Final Front Cover Draft

Image
The genre of my magazine is electronic music and the DJ lifestyle, I have represented electronic music as bright neon colours with a touch of metal elements. I chose the black background to make all the neon pop out more and look stronger so that it catches the readers attention, the prismatic colour choices represent the freedom of music in the DJ scene. Neon lights have the connotations of night life and the club scene, they are flashy and cool to look at attracting customers much like bees to a flower.  The audience for my magazine is aimed at  students and young people who make enough money to blow it all on a Friday night at the club, aged specifically 18 to 30 year olds that are in love with the electronic scene who go to many DJing events. I want my audience to be able to read my magazine and know exactly what is going on in the electronic scene, they would be able to pick my magazine up and educate themselves about the genre but also see the different sub genres. Pu...

Front cover edit 2

Image
I have chosen to change my magazine from the genre metal to electronica because i feel like my art direction and editing skill are more suited to that style. I realised this while creating my double page spread since the colour scheme made more sense for electronica.

Doublepage Spread 1

Image
I chose a dark background with pops of colour to make the double page spread look expensive so the reader feels like they are getting top quality for the price they are paying for, i made the image of me match the red tone in the background to look more cohesive. I chose a simple font coloured white so that the reader can easily read it without confusion, I added text about who my artist was and some facts about them so that they audience who may not know him would be able to pick this up and read it getting all the information they could need. However if they did want more I added his social media so that the readers who are interested in him could find out more about this underground artist.

contents page 1

Image
I wanted the contents page to be very simple and straightforward for the reader so that there is no confusion,  I chose a simple layout with black over the white with a simple readable font. I plan to make the font a different neon colour to match the magazines theme as a whole better so it looks more cohesive.

Front Cover Draft 1

Image
The genre of my magazine is metal which is being aimed toward younger fans aged between 16-25 who are interested in metal music and want to find out about the latest bands that are touring near them but also exclusive interviews with them. The main narrative of my magazine is to live without fear projecting a positive and accepting message to young fans so they can aspire to be whatever they want, I feel the music also represents rebellion so that young people feel like they don't have to fit a certain mold of what society expects. The lifestyle show will be very real and raw for a band with all the details about what bands get up to whilst on tour and creating new music.  I chose the title Grave because it is a musical reference to music that is played slow and seriously but also playing off the fact of a graveyard with goth influences. I want my colour scheme to be dark but have the titles be a neon colour to appeal to a younger audience showing them that metal music isn...

This is one of my own original drawings that i am including in my front cover which i will later Photoshop to have more of a neon lights effect but for now it will stay like this for my first draft
