Emotive and Colloquial Language in Magazines

Image
Q's target audience are mainly 20-30 year old's who love to read about music and music artists. The language used in this magazine is very colloquial with words such as "hookers" and "bastard" used very informally which makes the reader feel very comfortable to read it because it sounds like words they would use with their friends. This causes an emotional reaction of laughter in the audience because its not common for magazines to have this type of language displayed across the front cover for all to see. The phrase "Meet the new Simon Cowell...(and this ones not a bastard)" this sounds like the magazine is introducing us to a new person completely and that the only way you'll find out how different this Simon Cowell is by buying and reading this magazine, the audience will know him from the x-factor and know his behaviour on the show so they'll be surprised to see how he has changed which will appeal to them. "Skrillex dan...

Emotive and Colloquial Language in Magazines

Image
Asos's target audience are mainly young people aged between 15-30 years old who do most of their shopping online. The french used ("Ooh la la") on the front of the magazine is used because France has the connotations of being chic and fashion forward due to Paris fashion week. The adjectives "Fresh" and "Fun" are colloquial which means that the target audience will see this use of language and feel more inclined to read what else is inside this magazine. "Fresh,Fun,Fearless" the use of alliteration makes the reader focus on that particular section of text, the repetition of the "F" sound creates a mood of cleanliness with the opening of the word "Fresh" which is then emphasised by the flowers on the front cover, they often represent purity so they fit perfectly with the text.   the fact that the magazine doesn't display much text speaks for its self because after all Asos is a fashion retailer so the focus is mo...

School Magazine Analysis

Image
This magazine has the image taking up the whole page with the girl the main focus and the background being blurred out. The title is placed in the top left corner with a chalk pen style font, with the date and issue number underneath and the website too. All the cover-lines are to the left of the girl framing the magazine better. The first cover-line "Turner: My Big Plans!" creates a familiarity with the students who see this magazine and makes them want to buy it and find out what Turner's plans are. The pronoun "We're" in the second cover-line enforces this idea that this school has the best school results of any school, this appeals to parents who want their children to go to the best schools. The last cover-line "New To The School?" again appeals to parents who have sent their child to this school and want to be able to help them around which buying this magazine is proposing to do.  The colours used are very bright and stand out giving charac...

Editors Letter Analysis 2

Image
The editor starts her letter with a description of what she wants to achieve in life one of them being "learning how to play the banjo" showing her more personal side with what she is currently doing with her life, so the audience feels a connection of that she is more than just the editor of a magazine. She has aspirations and goals like everybody else. This comes across very relaxed and easy-going letting the reader digest the information easily. She is also showing the reader that they should set their own goals, she has used her own as an example to encourage them to pursue their own goals. Towards the end she gives advice by saying goals should be 'practised daily' and throughout the year so it takes the pressure of doing it as soon as possible She uses colloquial language to round off the end of the letter with "Cheers!" which is often spoken allowed rather than written down, thus adding a light hearted sense of humour to a somewhat serious topic....

Editors Letter Analysis 1

Image
This magazine starts right away with a question about how you perceive yourself in the mirror making the reader start off already thinking, "does your brain send an automatically generated negative response when you're in front of the mirror?", this immediately gets the reader to think similarly to a topic sentence. This also entices the reader to read on and get to the know the editor on a personal level so that the magazine is more personal   and they feel like they can keep buying new issues each time. She then states about her personal life going in detail about "working in a female dominated fashion focused industry can get a little intense" this makes the editor come across down to earth and realistic which is often hard to find when reading magazines since people tend to lie, this makes the audience relate to her even more because she is not afraid to tell it like it is.  In the last paragraph she starts asking questions like "what do you think?...

Research-Music Magazine Front Cover (Representation)

Image
# In the V magazine cover Britney spears is represented as seductive and sultry, the mise-en-scene assists in constructing these representations. For example she is sitting on a sofa wearing black lingerie posing seductively like she is tempting the audience to look at her, this is re-enforced by her dark smokey makeup. The shot of the picture is slightly from an angle above which she is looking directly into, the v has been placed so its directly in the centre with her inside it making her the main image. The lighting caresses the side of her her face at the top of the picture which contrasts against the shadows at the bottom of the picture. This can be seen as innocents and purity where her face is in the light but her lingerie is in the shadows showing impurity and mystery. Planning;  From this magazine we can see that costume makeup and lighting are very important when constructing a magazine cover because they are what the audience hones in on first when they look art it...
